The London Borough of Enfield is located in North London, bordered by Essex and Hertfordshire to the north.
Enfield is one of London's largest boroughs. In 2020, Enfield had an estimated population of 333,587, representing a rich tapestry of cultures and communities. In particular, it has large Turkish, Greek and Cypriot populations.
Enfield is home to extensive parks and green spaces, such as Forty Hall Estate, Lee Valley Regional Park, and Enfield Chase. Forty Hall Estate saw the first beaver to be born in London in 400 years. This project, since inspiring others around London, is reintroducing beavers into the city to create natural ecosystems which have been lost or destroyed, to combat flooding in the city.
The borough is also home to significant employers, including various logistics and distribution companies due to its strategic location near the M25. Most notably, the new OMA film studios opened in Enfield, bringing new commercial opportunities for the area and the British Film Industry.
The borough faces significant opportunities for change and development. The strategic location between London and Essex and the transport connections make Enfield a desirable place for investment and relocation.
The borough also has significant planning challenges and constraints. Two thirds of the borough is designated Green Belt land which restricts the development to the south of the borough.

Article 4 Directions
Article 4 Directions enable a local authority to remove certain permitted development rights. This means that for the specified development a planning application will need to be submitted.
The borough has article 4's in place for some of the conservation areas in the borough. There is also an article 4 for changes in use from dwelling house to a HMO across the whole of Enfield. There is more detail on the borough's website.
